To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA) is a non-profit movement that raises awareness, offers hope, and finds help for those struggling with issues such as depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. They use many different tools including art (especially music) and speaking engagements to help deal with these serious issues. As someone who has dealt with both depression and self-injury, I deeply admire the work TWLOHA has done and owe them a personal debt for the difference they have made in my life.
I Am Second is a movement that talks about shared significance in life that actors, musicians, athletes, and people just like you and me have found. It involves looking at life’s deepest struggles and still finding purpose in living second to something else. To find out more about it, check out their site.
Mercy Ministries of America has provided hope and healing to young women seeking help from life-controlling problems such as drug and alcohol addictions, depression, eating disorders, unplanned pregnancy, physical and sexual abuse, self-harm, and other issues. It is a free -of-charge program that takes in applicants from ages 13-28. It’s a residential program designed to help stop destructive patterns and help girls leave with hope. I love what they do, so check them out; and share their info with those who need it.
